Custom Residential Landscape Design

Our Landscape Designs are hand-drawn, roughly-to-scale, diagrams of a client's residence with newly proposed planting areas and individual plants sized and located on the drawing.  Proposed features such as walkways, patios, and perhaps a water feature or natural stone rockery are designed and added to the drawing based on customer input and designer experience.

Selection of Plants

Plant selection is based on a site analysis that identifies important aspects such as critical views, current and future uses of specific areas, slopes and drainage requirements, cultural criteria (sun, shade and soil conditions), and sound or sight screening needs.

Plant selection is strongly influenced by the choice of a design style that integrates well with the existing landscape, residence and surrounding area.  In addition to style considerations, plant selection is based on knowledge of form, texture, color and mature size of each plant.

The placement and grouping of plants is guided by similar soil type and water requirements, and the use of balance, unity, repetition, scale and other design criteria.  Specific plant selection is also influenced by our experience with the incredible variety of plants available and suitable in the Pacific Northwest area.

Water Features

The decision to add a water feature to a residential landscape may be based on the desire to incorporate a pleasant sound into your backyard or the fun of a colorful mixture of goldfish.  The desire for a frog-friendly pond or a bird-friendly stream may also be sufficient reason to add a water feature to the landscape design.

Rock Work

Walkways and patios help define the separate areas of your landscape and provide needed open space for entertainment and ease of access.  Whether constructed of natural flagstone or manufactured stone, they provide a clean transition between planting areas, lawn and your home and should significantly add to overall beauty of your property.
